MORE than 70 bags of sellable goods were donated in a charity bag-athon.

The Whale Nursery in Whale Island was host to the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) annual charity drive.

People are encouraged to bag up unwanted items, which can then be sold in BHF stores to raise money for the charity.

Helen Hilliard, store manager for the BHF shop in London Road, North End, said: ‘The bag-athon was absolutely amazing.

‘We collected 71 bags in all, which amounts to around £570.

‘One lady had cleared her attic out and dropped off 12 bags, which was fantastic.’

Items donated ranged from toys, clothing, books and bric-a-brac items.

‘We want to make next year’s event even bigger,’ added Helen.

‘We hope to get more people involved.’
