PEOPLE are being reminded to donate blood before they go away on their summer holidays.

NHS Blood and Transplant want to encourage people to ensure they keep blood stocks healthy.

John Canning, lead donor relations manager for NHSBT, pictured right, said: ‘Summer is the time of year that everyone looks forward to.

‘The longer days, warmer weather and the plethora of outdoor events puts everyone in a good mood.

‘But with some people jetting off to exotic countries, we like to encourage eligible donors to donate before their holiday, rather than afterwards, to ensure that the blood stocks are kept healthy.’

Here is a list of the latest sessions taking place in the Portsmouth area:

n Tuesday, August 6, at St Swithun’s church, Waverley Road, Southsea, from 1.30pm to 3.25pm and 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

n Wednesday, August 7, at St James’ Hospital, Locksway Road, Milton, from 10.30am to 1pm and 2.30pm to 5pm.

n Friday, August 9, All Saints Church, Hambledon Road, Denmead, from 1.30pm to 3.25pm and 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

Anyone aged between 17 to 65, weighing more than 50 kg (7stone 12lbs), and in general good health could potentially start saving lives by becoming a blood donor.
