THERE were big cheers all round as a hospital team picked up an honour at The News’ Best of Health Awards.

Amulree Day Hospital staff were given raucous applause when they walked up the stage to pick up the gong for Hospital Team of the Year.

The team were presented with their award by Havant MP, Alan Mak.

Steph Golightly, of the unit which supports people over the age of 65, said: ‘This is such a special moment for us as it makes all the work that we do worthwhile.

‘We want to say a huge thank you to all who nominated us.

‘It’s such a great feeling to have our name called out and to be now holding this award.

‘We really did not expect it at all and it really just means the world to us to get the recognition from our patients who nominated us.’

The team received scores of nominations from patients across the Portsmouth area.

Staff were called kind and helpful, but also willing to go the extra mile. A nominee said: ‘They are in a class of their own for friendliness, cheerfulness and care.’

The leg clinic team at the Gosport War Memorial Hospital were runners-up on the night. Patients said they were thoughtful, kind and dedicated.
