A NURSE recruitment drive at Queen Alexandra Hospital is working as more than 90 per cent of vacancies have been filled.

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs QA, planned to have 22,851 nurses working for the trust, last month.

But the actual figure is 21,077, which equates to 92.2 per cent. Despite the shortfall, it puts PHT in the top band of trusts able to recruit nurses.

It comes as it was reported some 92 per cent of the 225 acute hospital trusts in England did not manage to run wards with their planned number of nurses.
