THE trust that runs Queen Alexandra Hospital has been nominated for national awards.
The diabetes team at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust has been shortlisted for two awards – the acute sector innovation category for the Health Service Journal Awards, and the child and adolescent services category by the Nursing Times Awards.
Partha Kar, diabetes consultant, said: ‘The team has been proud to reshape the service. It is primarily based on direct feedback from patients or the users of the service, and designed with the needs of this specific group of patients, their challenges in transition to adulthood.
‘Our ethos has been to support the patients with this chronic disease, especially in a difficult time of their lives – and being responsive to their needs, rather than be confined in traditional rigid NHS structures.’
In partnership with South Central Ambulance Service, PHT is also shortlisted in the acute sector innovation category for work in hypoglycaemic admissions.
