HEALTH services will encourage smokers to quit for good this week.

Wednesday is national No Smoking Day and the message is clear – there has never been a better time to say goodbye to cigarettes.

Pompey Quit will offer free Nicotine Replacement Therapy to help would-be non-smokers get through their first cigarette-free day, and can continue the therapy for up to 12 weeks.

All you need to do is visit the Pompey Quit team in the reception area of the civic offices on Guildhall Square tomorrow between 10am and 1pm.

Portsmouth public health director Dr Janet Maxwell said: ‘Smoking is the biggest cause of premature death in England and each year it accounts for more than 100,000 deaths in the UK.’

Pompey Quit runs a range of individual sessions, drop-ins and social groups across the city.

Health services including Solutions4Health, GPs and pharmacies will also be encouraging people to quit.
