STAFF at Fareham’s newest care home have attended a masterclass in dementia.
Experts from Bournemouth University Dementia Institute held a one-day course at Parker Meadows to share their latest knowledge.
Attitudes to dementia and how best to care for people living with the illness are changing fast with new methods being developed.
Home manager Geraint Williams said: ‘While we already offer specialist dementia care I believe you can never stop learning how to improve the care you provide.
‘In recent years there has been a huge leap forward in the understanding of dementia-based illnesses and how to communicate with people that are living with the condition.
‘I wanted everybody here to receive this training, not just the carers, so the entire team has an understanding of what it’s like to live with the condition and what we can all do to make their lives more comfortable and less stressful.’
The course showed staff how people living with dementia can lead a better quality of life.
