BUSINESSES are being encouraged to ‘raise a smile’ to help a local charity raise funds for a new short-break centre.
Charity Smile Support and Care is inviting businesses and schools to dress up in fancy dress on Friday, February 1, to raise money.
The charity has plans to build a respite centre in Waterlooville for disabled children and young adults.
Community fundraiser Jess Zubaidi said: ‘It’s a really simple idea. We’re just encouraging people to make others smile.
‘People just go to work or school in fancy dress, and the general guideline is to donate a pound.

‘We’ve got interest already, but it would be great to have more join in.’
The charity is looking to raise around £3.4m for the centre.
It has already bought the land, which is just off Eagle Avenue, Cowplain, and the plans have been approved.
Jess added: ‘It’s definitely happening. We’re about half way there with our fundraising.’
‘It will take people whether it’s just for the day or for a holiday.’
