Cats asked to be blood-giving lifesavers

A VET’S practice in Farlington is appealing for cat owners to help boost blood stocks.

The Sanctuary Veterinary Centre says that, while there is a national blood bank for dogs, fresh donations are needed for every cat transfusion.

Now the practice wants to set up a donor register for cats in the Portsmouth area. Donors must be under eight years old, and weigh more than 4kg.

Amanda Bunting, from the practice, said: ‘Anybody who feels their cat may be a suitable donor should give the surgery a call to arrange free blood typing and a health check.’

To find out more about the scheme, contact Sanctuary on (023) 9237 6274.
