A TEAM of university students is encouraging young people to check their breasts regularly.
CoppaFeel! is a national organisation that gets people to check their breasts for lumps or any changes that could point to breast cancer.
The University of Portsmouth’s ‘boob team’ is made up of 18 students who attend and hold events to promote their work.
Elly Grantham is the team leader for the Portsmouth area and she is looking forward to promoting the charity over the next year.
She said: ‘We are working on behalf of CoppaFeel! as a university Boob Team.
‘CoppaFeel!’s mission is to ensure all breast cancers are diagnosed at the earliest stage possible at which treatments are more effective and survival rates higher.
‘CoppaFeel! is the only breast cancer charity that specifically targets young people.
‘My 18-strong team have taken over student nights out, done cake sales, raffled off prizes from local charities and also got over 300 students to sign up to CoppaFeel!’s free text reminder service.
‘All the students have to do is text PORT to 70500 and they will receive a free text every month reminding them to check their boobs.
‘We have also made an advert with the help of the university TV station.
‘However, this is only the beginning.
‘We have a whole year ahead of us and we are planning to make as much noise as we can around campus.’
