A GENEROUS business has stepped in to help families of children undergoing hospital treatment to have a holiday.

FPR Recruitment has donated £1,000 to Sam’s Haven, a charity which provides holidays at Church Farm Caravan Park, Chichester.

It was set up by five-year-old Sam Merrick’s mum and dad Louise and Paul, who are trying to raise £30,000 to buy their own caravan to use for the holidays. In the meantime they are providing holidays in other caravans elsewhere the site.

Paul Simpson, sales director at FPR Recruitment, said: ‘What we think is so interesting about what Louise is doing is that she is giving children, who have to endure constant hospital appointments a break, and parents a bit of respite. We’re delighted to be able to support Sam’s Haven.

‘The world that Sam and his mother and father live in is largely hidden.

‘As a result it’s easy for us to go about our normal lives without giving it a second thought.

‘We hope that our contribution will give children a break from hospital admissions, give parents a rest, and encourage other people to support Sam’s Haven. We also want to raise awareness of what Louise is doing.’

Sam, of Bere Road, Denmead, was born at just 26 weeks and has had to endure regular trips to hospital in his lifetime because of chronic lung disease and a rare immuno deficiency.

It has meant a lot of upheaval for the family. But the times they’ve spent together at the holiday park have proved so precious and relaxing that they want to give other families in their position the same opportunity.

Upcoming events for Sam’s Haven:

· Today – playdate at Horizon Leisure Centre, Havant, from 6.30pm to 8pm.

· March 15 – craft and table top sale at Denmead church.

· March 18 – clairvoyant evening at Grosvenor Casino Gunwharf.

· April 12 – Easter ball at Hilton Hotel, Farlington

· April 19 – quiz at Hayling Community Centre.
