First aiders go to finals

VOLUNTEER first aiders from Fareham won the regional final of a competition.

The St John Ambulance volunteers from Fareham won the south east regional heats of the charity’s national first aid competition.

It was designed to help both adult and youth volunteers maintain their essential first aid skills.

The adult competition was won by Fareham volunteers Derek Meek, who’s the unit manager, alongside his fellow volunteer Jane Favill.

Competitors in this category had to treat two hurdlers who had collided and sustained an open fracture of the leg and a broken collarbone; a patient having an asthma attack; and, an infant who was choking and had stopped breathing.

A final heat takes place on October 11. To find out more visit sja.org.uk
