Get tested and help break world record bid

A HEALTH trust covering the Portsmouth area is hoping to break the world record on how many people are screened for chlamydia in 24 hours.

Solent NHS Trust will start the challenge at 10am on February 14 and it is hoped more people aged 15 to 24 will get checked for the infection.

Rebecca Perrin, chlamydia lead nurse at Solent NHS Trust, said: ‘It is important to get tested for chlamydia, even if you have no noticeable symptoms.

‘It can go unnoticed in men and women for years and can cause long-term damage – including infertility in women – and pain if it’s not diagnosed and treated quickly.

‘We encourage young people to get tested annually and also between partners to remain sexually healthy for their own, and their partners, wellbeing.’

To take part in the challenge, people can get tested at the following Portsmouth locations:

n University of Portsmouth, Winston Churchill Avenue, from 10am to 5pm.

n Liquid nightclub, Stanhope Road, from 9pm to midnight.
