Hampshire smokers urged to kick the habit with NHS help

Thousands of people across the south quit smoking with the help of the NHS according to new figures.

Local NHS Stop Smoking Services helped more than 12,500 people across the region kick the habit between April and September last year.

People who set out to quit smoking with NHS help in the south were the most successful in the country, with 53 per cent achieving their goal to be smoke free.

Director of public health for NHS South of England, Dr Gabriel Scally, said: ‘People are four times more likely to quit with support from NHS Stop Smoking Services than if they go it alone. Anyone who has tried to quit for 2012 should remember that there’s a great deal of expert help available.’
