Health trusts get money for dementia

THOUSANDS of pounds is to be spent on improving dementia care in Hampshire.

Communities across the South of England were encouraged to apply for a share of £9m of government funding as part of the Challenge on Dementia scheme, which was launched in July this year.

Both the Fareham and Gosport Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and the South Eastern Hampshire CCGs have been awarded £20,000 each to provide holistic care for people with dementia.

They are also sharing a £23,775 pot for developing circles of support for people with dementia, and making towns more ‘dementia-friendly’ with other Hampshire CCGs.

Richard Samuel, chief officer for both CCGs, said: ‘There is a real drive and determination to do as much as we can to win the war against dementia – a terrible condition which touches so many families in our communities.

‘Our funding applications had to show the CCGs were looking to commission innovations and best practice in care.

‘Our GPs want to make a real difference to the lives of people living with dementia.’
