DOGS will embark on a charity walk to help raise money for a hospice.
The first Woofs and Wellies event is due to take place on Sunday.
The sponsored walk has been organised to raise money for The Rowans Hospice and is being held in the grounds of Stansted Park in Rowlands Castle.
Among those taking part will be Jack Russell terrier Bean and boxer Megan. Joining them on their walk will be Angela Pryce, a veterinary nurse for Sanctuary Vets, in Jackson Close, Cosham.
She said: ‘I’m well aware of the hospice. My friends and family have supported it for a quite a few years, doing their raffle.
‘I do believe in the work they do and am also aware they need every pound they can get, because most of the money is generated through fundraising.’
As well as taking part in the walk, the vets’ practice is also providing support to the dogs on the day.
Sarah Turner, veterinary surgeon, will man a stall that will have help and advice for dog owners.
She said: We will be there on the day to provide any emergency support and to give advice.
‘The Rowans are really a big part of the community and we are doing what we can to support them.’
Staff at the Purbrook hospice say they have been inundated with dog registrations and around 200 will be taking part. Each dog participating in the walk will receive a medal and doggy bag at the end.
Due to its popularity, the hospice is planning another Woofs and Wellies event in autumn this year.
Ali Corbett, event fundraiser at the hospice, said: ‘We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to this special dog walk around the picturesque Stansted Park. We’re also grateful to Sanctuary Vets and other suppliers who are supporting the event by providing treats for the doggy bags and also the Pavilion Tea Rooms and Stansted Park itself for hosting the event.’
