MUM Hannah Bruce is praising everyone who donates blood after she needed a transfusion during childbirth.

Hannah, 24, of Tortworth Close, Fareham, gave birth to Oscar on August 6 this year.

But during that time she lost 800ml of blood and became severely anaemic.

It meant Hannah was unable to focus on conversation,
and had difficulty moving around.

But that changed when she was given a transfusion of three pints of blood.

She said: ‘Within an hour I was feeling my normal self, I had so much energy and wanted to run around the room.

‘My iron levels had risen a great deal and I was given the okay to go home the next day.

‘I had always thought about giving blood, but never did because I was so scared of needles, this is something I will always regret.

‘I never realised how important giving blood was until I needed it myself.’

Hannah is backing The News’ Give Blood This Christmas campaign to get 200 new donors signed up to the register.

We’re working with NHS Blood and Transplant to make this happen.

‘I will never be able to know whose blood I received on that day, so telling my story is my way of saying thank you to those people and to everyone else who has given blood,’ added Hannah.

‘You are all truly amazing people.

‘I urge anyone who is able to give blood to please do so.

‘You never know when you will need it and you never truly know how important it is until you feel the benefits yourself.’
