Longer days should give more time to donate vital blood

WITH the days getting longer, people are being asked to see if they can find extra time to donate blood.

Blood donations are a vital part of treatment for many conditions, including cancer and long-term illnesses, people involved in accidents and women in maternity care.

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) runs donor sessions, and is asking people to give blood if they can.

John Canning, lead donor relations manager for NHSBT, said: ‘More daylight makes us all feel better and like we have more time and we’re asking people to think about giving blood as they start to make more plans.

‘Being willing to spare some free time a couple of times a year means you can help us to save lives.’

Here are details of the latest sessions:

· Monday, April 1, Waterlooville Community Centre, Maurepas Way, Waterlooville, from 10am to 12.25pm and 1.45pm to 4.15pm.

· Wednesday, April 3, Meadowside Leisure Centre, Whiteley Way, Whiteley, from 1.30pm to 3.25pm and 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

· Thursday, April 5, St James Hospital, Locksway Road, Milton, Portsmouth, from 10.30am to 1pm and 2.30pm to 5pm.

· Tuesday, April 9, Sarisbury Green Community Centre, The Green, from 1.30pm to 3.25pm and 4.30pm to 7.30pm.
