MEN over the age of 50 are being given the chance to have a free prostate check with a new procedure.
The Prostate Cancer Support Organisation is offering tests which take just 10 minutes with the latest equipment.
The charity provides help and support to those affected by the condition.
The event is a bid to educate men and alleviate the fears often associated with checking for prostate cancer.
Tests are done using a small blood sample taken from the thumb.
According to the charity, on average eight per cent of men test positive, with 15 per cent recording a borderline score.
The benefit of early detection is that men can be treated earlier, which may help to reduce the high mortality from this type of cancer.
The session will be held on Saturday, April 27, from 10am to 4pm.
It takes place at the Sacred Heart and St Peter the Apostle Church, in London Road, Waterlooville.
