THE number of people in Portsmouth getting their free NHS health check-up has increased by 32 per cent.
People aged 40 to 74 are invited every five years to attend the free NHS Health Check, by a letter in the post.
Local pharmacies and GPs assess the patient’s risk of developing heart disease, stroke, Type 2 diabetes and kidney disease and they give advice on how people can manage and maintain or improve their health in a way that fits in with their lives.
Interim Director of Public Health for Portsmouth Dr Andrew Mortimore said: ‘We’re pleased with the amount of people coming for their NHS Health Check so far.’
He added: ‘A 32 per cent increase in uptake is a fantastic achievement for three months’ of work, so we are on track to achieve a 50 per cent increase, if not more, by March 2013.’
