More chemo sessions at city hospital
MORE patients needing chemotherapy will be seen at a Chichester hospital after it increased the number of clinics it runs.
An extra day clinic will run at the Fernhurst Clinic in St Richard’s Hospital from May. The addition will mean an extra 20 to 22 chemotherapy treatments will be given each week.
And it will give people the chance to be treated near their homes, rather than travelling to Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Portsmouth.
The all-day chemotherapy clinic has been made possible because of joint working between the cancer teams at Western Sussex Hospitals Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals Trust.
Clare Dikken, lead nurse for cancer services, said: ‘Patients who need chemotherapy want to know they are getting the very best possible care in the most convenient place.
‘This extra service will allow us to move from delivering about 80 chemotherapy treatments a month to about 160 treatments, and the patients will receive this care in a superb facility, near to where they live.’
