WOMEN in the Portsmouth area will have to wait and see if the local NHS will take on new guidelines to let more people have IVF.
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, yesterday announced women between the ages of 40 to 42 can try for one cycle of IVF to help get them pregnant.
Previously the age limit had been set to 39.
The guidelines have also stated women as young as 23 can have IVF.
However the South Central Specialised Commissioning Group, which covers Portsmouth and south east Hampshire, only pays for women aged between 30 and 34.
Penny Mordaunt, MP for Portsmouth North, has been campaigning for new rules to be brought in, so more women can qualify.
She said: ‘This is great news.
‘People still want to do things the traditional way, meet a partner, buy a house and then have children.
‘But things are happening later.
‘I will be writing to commissioners to see if they will look at these guidelines.’
