New chairman appointed for health group

THE new chairman of a clinical group that will buy in health services for Fareham and Gosport has been appointed.

Dr David Chilvers has been named as the chairman of the Fareham and Gosport Clinical Commissioning Group (F&G CCG).

A GP for 20 years, Dr Chilvers takes over from Dr Koyih Tan, who stood down as chairman last month.

Dr Chilvers said: ‘I feel honoured to have been entrusted by my colleagues to take on this important challenge, but it is one that I relish.

‘The whole NHS is undergoing major change at present, including the development of CCGs around the country.

‘When we take on responsibility for commissioning in April 2013, I will ensure we work with fellow GPs, patients and the public to improve health services for our patients, while coping with increased demand and expectation and having to live within our means financially.’

From next April, CCGs will replace primary care trusts as the main commissioner of health services for their area.
