NHS partnership buys mental health rehabilitation centre

AN NHS Trust and a private healthcare firm have bought an £8m mental health rehabilitation centre.

Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust UK purchased Nelson House in Rowner Road, Gosport with partner firm Care UK.

The 32-bed facility is used to help people with mental health issues to work toward living independently.

It offers care and treatment to male patients aged 18 to 65.

It is one of many NHS recovery and rehabilitation services.

Lisa Rodrigues, chief executive of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said: ‘We have a track record of helping people to recover their mental health and wellbeing and live full lives as members of their local community.

‘This new arrangement with Care UK means we will be able to support more people and give them hope for the future.’

As reported, Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage opened it last month.

Albion Ventures sold the Orchard Portman Hospitals-run centre.

The NHS and Care UK partnership has formed Recovery and Rehabilitation Partnership Ltd – the first of its kind – which is now running the centre.

Patients moved in last year when the centre was completed in May 2012, after building work started in April 2011.

Dr Alison Rose-Quirie, Care UK’s managing director of mental health services said: ‘Our partnership brings together the best of the NHS and the independent sector.’
