NHS chiefs: No cases of norovirus at Queen Alexandra Hospital

QUEEN Alexandra Hospital has been given a clean bill of health when it comes to cases of winter vomiting bug outbreaks in wards.

The Cosham hospital says it has no cases of norovirus, and as a result no ward closures.

Southampton General Hospital has closed five wards as it deals with an outbreak.

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust wants to make sure the bug is prevented from entering the hospital.

It is reminding people to make sure they keep good hand hygiene and ensure that if they show any norovirus symptoms, they avoid the hospital.

Norovirus is the most common stomach bug in the UK and affects people of all ages.

It is highly contagious and causes vomiting and diarrhoea.

As there is no cure patients suffering from the bug are advised to let the illness run its course – which should last a couple of days.

Those who get norovirus are advised to drink plenty of fluids to stop dehydration and wash their hands regularly.
