Nurse up for national award

HER hard work training nurses to care for stroke patients has earned Colleen Lloyd a nomination for a national award.

The Portsmouth nurse is a finalist in the Nurse of the Year 2013 awards, organised by journal, Nursing Standard.

Colleen is part of a team of four who are teaching nurses in Ghana on how to care for patients who have had a stroke.

In Ghana stroke is the second largest cause of death, after malaria.

Nursing Standard’s editor-in-chief Jean Gray said: ‘Congratulations
to Colleen on becoming one of our finalists.

‘Our annual awards provide a unique opportunity to highlight and reward excellent practice within the nursing profession.’

Colleen will discover whether she has won the International Nursing
Award – which includes a prize of
£500 – at a ceremony on March 12 in London.
