Luckily for these children, there were no baddies that had come to visit them.
Instead some of the cast from this year’s Kings Theatre pantomime visited poorly children in Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.
This year the theatre in Albert Road, Southsea, is showing a production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
And one-year-old Jenson Marshall, who has been staying in the Starfish ward, was visited by the panto stars.
His mum Erika, 33, of Gordon Road, Emsworth, said: ‘Jenson has chronic lung disease as he was a premature baby.
‘He’s been in hospital this time as he has picked up a chest infection.
‘This visit was brilliant and Jenson loved it.
‘He likes bright colours and music, so for him it was great.’
As the cast visited children, they also handed out flashing wands and swords to each child.
And Sophie Curd, 12, was also lucky enough to get a kiss from two Prince Charmings.
The youngster has been in hospital due to having vision problems and feeling faint.
Sophie, of St Matthews Road, Cosham, said: ‘I didn’t know the panto was going to be visiting, so it was a surprise.
‘It was a nice surprise though.
‘It can get quite boring sitting in the hospital bed and not being able to move around.
‘It can also be quite noisy, so I enjoyed the visit.
‘I like going to see pantomimes and this was a nice surprise.’
Actress Charlotte Maclachlan is playing the part of Snow White.
She said: ‘It was really special to come and see the kids.
‘It’s Christmas, and if you’re in hospital then visits like this can cheer you up.
‘Taking time out of rehearsals and seeing these children really makes it worthwhile.
‘You only have to look at their faces and see the smiles.’
The panto runs until January 6.
