Portsmouth office move for NHS services
THE team delivering Portsmouth’s health needs is to move offices as part of the government’s reorganisation of the NHS.
All 27 staff from the primary care trust NHS Portsmouth will move from St James’ Hospital, Milton, to the Civic Offices in the city centre later this month.
They will remain PCT staff until April 2013, after which they will become Portsmouth City Council employees.
Under the health reforms, responsibility for public health issues such as smoking, obesity and sexual health services, will also transfer over.
Portsmouth’s director of public health Dr Paul Edmondson-Jones said: ‘Health is everyone’s business and should be led by the local democratic process and by the people closest to residents – their GPs and councillors.
‘There are so many factors involved, such as good quality housing, good education and good employment opportunities, for healthy communities.’
From February 24 the number for the public health team will be (023) 9284 1560.
