Quitters offered the support they need
WANNABE quitters don't have to go it alone because help is on hand from local pharmacists.
Anyone keen to take the plunge and stub out the cigarettes can pop into a nearby chemist and get advice on how to axe the fags.
Jaffer Jaffer, from Jaffer's pharmacy in Nimrod Drive, Rowner, Gosport, is one of the chemists that take part in an eight-week support programme that runs across Hampshire helping people give up for good.
He said: 'When you get stressed, you smoke, but it actually sends your stress levels up. When it goes back down it makes you more stressed and you want to smoke again.
'The main thing is not to light that first cigarette.'
The eight-week course is free to people who don't pay prescription charges, and involves a session every two weeks.
At the end of the eight weeks there is the opportunity to extend the programme.
Mr Jaffer added: 'I tell people to keep a tin. At the end for the first week or the first month – whichever they choose – they should open it and spend half on themselves and save half.'
