And while large legacies, such as the one left by Audrey Smith, can help, regular donations are still needed.
Ann Cooper, head of communications for the Purbrook hospice, said: ‘Audrey understood the importance of regular giving to fund the continuing care and support offered by the hospice.
‘And while her legacy is amazing, every gift is important to us, irrespective of how large or small.’ It costs almost £4.6m per year to fund The Rowans, including its hospice at home service.
