Texts may smoke the rogues out

SHOPS where cigarettes are sold to youngsters could be shamed by text message.

Hampshire's trading standards officers are urging people to use mobile phones to report retailers who sell tobacco to minors.

The move follows yesterday's raising of the legal age for sale of tobacco products from 16 to 18.

'Statistics show that someone who starts smoking at 15 is three times more likely to die from cancer due to smoking than someone who starts in their mid-20s,' says Ken Thornber, Hampshire County Council leader.

To report a shop, text 60003. People should start their text HANTS UNDERAGE.
