HER untimely death has left a gaping hole in their lives.
Becki Drabble was just 45 when she lost her long fight against cancer on September 6.
Her husband Gerry, 41, of Elsfred Road, has paid tribute to his wife, describing her as a ‘typical wife and mother that never made a fuss’.
Now he vows to keep her name alive by launching a petition urging the government to spend more of the NHS budget on cancer treatment.
Although Mr Drabble admits he doesn’t know the exact percentage of what the service spends on treating patients, he is calling on the NHS to dedicate 30 per cent of its budget to tackle it.
Last year, around five and a half per cent of its budget was spent on cancer treatment.
Becki, who leaves behind children Aaron, 11, and Owen, seven, was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2008. She underwent treatment before the disease reoccurred in 2010.
She died after it emerged it had spread to her legs – four days after the couple marked their 17th wedding anniversary.
Mr Drabble said: ‘She was very loving and someone that never wanted to cause any trouble.
‘She was very strong and stubborn and the fact that she survived this long was down to that.
‘Our lives have been left empty but with her in mind we try not to sit down moping – she was not that kind of person.’
He added the petition has already caught the attention of Hull East MP Karl Turner after it was posted on Twitter.
Mr Drabble said: ‘I want to raise awareness that cancer treatment in hospital doesn’t get main funding because they are reliant on outside agencies like Macmillan. If I can save any family from having someone wrenched away from them I will feel a sense of satisfaction.’
