Two doctor-led trusts given the go-ahead

DOCTORS in two newly-formed health trusts have become fully authorised to take over budgets from April.

The Fareham and Gosport Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and the South Eastern Hampshire CCG have this week been told they have done enough to prove they are ready to take over health budgets.

Dr David Chilvers, chairman of the Fareham and Gosport CCG, said: ‘This has been an incredibly difficult process for us, but we are absolutely delighted we have been given approval.

‘We hope to address health inequalities in the area, and look to see how we will tackle an aging population.’

CCGs are set to take over from primary care trusts in April.

The change comes from the Health and Social Care Act.

Portsmouth CCG was authorised last year.
