A FREE community fair is taking place to mark a stroke awareness month.

The Stroke Association in Portsmouth is hosting the event, which takes place at St Jude’s Church in Kent Road, Southsea, from 10am to 2pm, on Saturday, May 17.

May is Action on Stroke month.

There will be stroke prevention information and a sponsored walk that starts at 11am.

Esme Mutter, area manager for the Stroke Association, said: ‘Our fair is to celebrate Action on Stroke month and give residents the chance to find out more about reducing their risk of stroke and mini-stroke. It’s going to be a fun day out for everyone.’

According to the association, around 475 people in Portsmouth have a stroke each year, and more than 3,240 people live with the effects.
