A DIABETES ‘speed dating’ event is being tested in Portsmouth.

Called Portsmouth Sweet Meet, the idea is for people with type one diabetes to meet the medical staff who diagnose and treat their condition.

There will be a chance to ‘speed date’ around the room in order to ask people questions.

And it’s also a place for type one diabetics to meet others living with the condition.

Dr Partha Kar, diabetes consultant and clinical lead at Queen Alexandra Hospital, helped organise the event.

He said: ‘This is an initiative so we can give patients the opportunity to come and speak to healthcare specialists, like GPs, consultants, and nurses, to better understand what patients want and need.

‘It is a trial, and if it works well, then we would like to develop it further.’

The event takes place on Saturday, May 11, at St James’ Hospital, in Locksway Road, Milton, from 9.30am.

It is open to type one diabetics aged 17 and over.
