EVERY DAY Michelle Wickham goes out into the community and helps some of the most vulnerable people.
The 32-year-old is a community care worker and won the Carer of the Year category at the Best of Health Awards 2012.
Michelle, who has been a carer for 16 years, was unable to make the ceremony night, held at the Portsmouth Guildhall, due to doing the very job she has been praised for doing so well.
There were many nominations from people Michelle cares for. She is described as having a very caring nature and a good sense of humour that serves as medicine for the people she cares for and gives them confidence.
Michelle said: ‘I loved the job from when I did some work in a residential home.
‘It went from there and I love that I can enable people to live in their own homes and have some independence.
‘I’m chuffed to bits to have won. You don’t do it for the award, you do it because you love the job.’
For the second year running company Admiral Care picked up a trophy.
This time Paul Liscombe came runner-up in the category.
