A new virtual cycling community has been launched by Portsmouth City Council to connect everyone interested in cycling in Portsmouth and beyond.

The Pedal Portsmouth Facebook page will have the latest news about cycling in the city.

It is the place to find out about the free guided rides the council runs in partnership with British Cycling, the annual Pedal Portsmouth family cycling event, professional cycling events in the city including the Pearl Izumi Tour Series.

In addition there will be the latest news on Portsmouth’s plans to bid for the Tour de France and everything else the council, its partners and others are doing to support and encourage cycling in the city.

The council says it hopes the Facebook page will be a useful tool to help people find out about cycling opportunities in the area and encourage more people to get on their bikes and start cycling for fun.

Councillor Ken Ellcome, Portsmouth City Council’s cabinet member for traffic and transportation, said: ‘We want more people to cycle in Portsmouth. By having a dedicated social media presence for cycling we hope it will help people to keep updated about all things cycling related – whether it is information on our free local guided rides or news of major cycling events.’

The free guided rides will be promoted through the new page to encourage more people to register and participate in 2016.
