SOLENT NHS Trust is encouraging everyone to thank all of Hampshire’s carers this Carers Week.

This year the week, which runs from Monday, will focus on building carer-friendly communities, aiming to support carers while recognising they are individuals with needs of their own.

Mandy Rayani, Solent NHS Trust’s chief nurse, said: ‘One in every eight adults in the UK is a carer.

‘They do an amazing job, yet they are often not recognised for the care, help and support they give which makes such a difference to a person’s life.

‘As a trust we want to encourage everyone to take the time during the week to celebrate carers who really are the backbone of our communities.

‘If you know a carer why not take the time during Carers Week to chat to them about what it is they do?’

The trust provides community and specialist mental health services in Portsmouth, Southampton, and other parts of Hampshire, and hopes the week will help highlight the support available for carers.
