SCENARIOS highlighting different child welfare needs are being featured in a book written by a Portsmouth consultant nurse.

Safeguarding and Child Protection for Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors – A Practical Guide is the second book to be written by Dr Catherine Powell.

Dr Powell, who is employed by NHS Portsmouth, hopes the book will promote work done, she said: ‘Portsmouth has given me many opportunities as a consultant nurse to contribute to local and national research, practice and policy developments.

‘I wrote this book to share my knowledge and experience of safeguarding children practice more widely.

‘It’s also to promote the unique and crucial roles that nurses, midwives and health visitors play in this field.
