QA Hospital is after 5p coins to help cancer patients

FUNDRAISERS are hoping to raise enough money to cover the equivalent distance of a mile in 5p coins.

Queen Alexandra Hospital’s haematology and oncology unit has launched its ‘Mile of 5p’ fundraising challenge.

They want to spend the money on health and wellbeing events for patients undergoing treatment for cancer.

The challenge has been organised by Ruth Carter, head of nursing for surgery and cancer at the Cosham site.

For the fundraising, the unit is encouraging people to donate 5ps to raise £4,505.20, which is a mile of 5ps.

Ruth said: ‘It is a very big ask to collect enough 5ps to cover a mile.

‘All of the funds raised will go towards funding our health and wellbeing events.

‘These events are education and information days that enable people living with cancer and their families to take control and participate in their recovery.’

Collections of 5ps can be handed into the radiotherapy/oncology outpatients’ reception or the haematology/oncology day unit reception.
