PORTSMOUTH’S Queen Alexandra Hospital is to feature in a documentary highlighting the number of over-65s in England who have a drink problem.
The Cosham hospital will be on BBC1’s Panorama programe on Monday.
It focuses on the Specialist Alcohol Nurse Service, which was set up last year to help help Portsmouth’s alcoholics.
Brian Killen, 65, who has previously been featured in The News, talks about his addiction on the programme, and how staff at QA have helped turn his life around.
Dr Richard Aspinall, consultant hepatologist at QA, said: ‘We think of a very visible social disorder – the consequences of young people binge drinking on a Saturday night in our town centres.
‘But what’s much more hidden, quiet and below the radar is drinking at home.
‘It’s very easy for people to drink more than they are actually aware of, to get above the safe limits.’
Old, Drunk and Disorderly? will be shown on BBC1 on Monday at 7.30pm.
