MORE than 2,000 staff members at Queen Alexandra Hospital have had the flu jab.

As reported, the Department of Health will give a cash boost to those hospital trusts, which vaccinate 75 per cent of its staff.

In the first three weeks of the vaccination programme, 35 per cent – 2,195 people – have so far had the immunisation.

Last year Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs QA, vaccinated only 45 per cent of its staff.

People are also encouraged to protect themselves against flu.

The vaccination is free for:

· People aged 65 years or over (including those becoming 65 by April 2014)

· Pregnant women

· People with a serious, long term medical condition

· People living in long stay residential care homes or other long-stay care facilities

The jab costs around £6.
