STAFF at Queen Alexandra Hospital have been doing their best to spread the festive cheer to their military colleagues abroad.

Two giant cards were sent around the Cosham hospital to be signed by staff, in a bid to lift the spirits of soldiers deployed to Sierra Leone.

Carole Roberts , who works in patient services, came up with the idea to send the cards to the Ministry of Defence Hospital Unit.

She said: ‘I feel that we at QA are letting our troops and colleagues know they are not forgotten, no matter how far away from home they are this Christmas season.’

Squadron Leader Jon Hall helped co-ordinate the delivery of the cards, which should reach west Africa by December 21.

He said: ‘These messages of goodwill will be a real morale boost for all the guys out there.’

Hospital chief executive Ursula Ward organised for mince pies to be sent to the troops. She said: ‘We take our hats off to our military staff for what they are doing.’
