NURSING staff and specialists will be available to talk to the public at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham to mark falls awareness week on Wednesday.

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust says one third of people aged 65 and over fall every year, and increases to 50 per cent in the over 85 age range.

NHS staff, including nursing and therapy specialists in falls, will be in the main reception throughout the day.

There will be advice and leaflets from specialists on how to prevent falls and keep your bones fit and healthy, exhibits showcasing innovative falls prevention initiatives, walking stick ‘MOT’, and footwear checks.

The trust says it has seen falls among patients in the hospital drop ‘significantly’ since introducing successful measures.
