MEMBERS of staff from the trust that runs Queen Alexandra Hospital could be given the chance to be a part of history if they are chosen as a torchbearer for next year’s Olympic games.

In June Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust nominated the Employee of the Month winners to be torchbearers in the Olympic Torch Relay, which is due to take place in Portsmouth next July.

Four staff members have made it through to the next stage of the nomination process, and will go on to be reviewed by one of 12 regional selection panels.

The staff members are Wendy Woodage, respiratory outpatients supervisor, Dr Alison Hughes, renal consultant; Jenna Wisniewski, staff nurse, Bryony Holding, pre-operative assessment nurse specialist.

The trust will find out in December if any staff members have been successful.

Chief executive Ursula Ward said: ‘This is a wonderful achievement for our staff.’
