HE’S seen thousands of patients during his 34-year career as a doctor.
And now GP David Raw, who practised at the Sunnyside Medical Centre in Fratton Way, has retired.
To reward his dedication, patient David Banbury has put Dr Raw and his practice up for the Best of Health Awards.
Mr Banbury, of Northern Parade, Hilsea, said: ‘Dr Raw has been a great servant to the Portsmouth area.
‘He’s well-liked not only with the patients, but also the staff.
‘Dr Raw is up among the stalwarts of Portsmouth. It would be a wonderful gesture if he won this award, as a reward for his great work to the people of Portsmouth.’
Dr Raw trained in London and worked in Bristol before moving to Portsmouth.
He said: ‘When I joined the practice, my biggest fear was I would have a right old-fashioned partner that would tell me to do things one way only.
‘But he was very forward-thinking and I enjoyed my time immensely.’
Dr Raw was respiratory lead at the surgery, and also trained young doctors.
A keen walker, Dr Raw will be spending his time with wife Katie and his 12 grandchildren, and camping around Europe.
