A SALES executive is taking part in this year’s Great South Run and will be raising money for a diabetes charity.

This year’s event takes place in Portsmouth on October 27.

Sammy Wright, 28, from Hilsea, is taking on the 10-mile challenge, because her mother, Linda has type one diabetes.

Linda is struggling with the gradual loss of her sight, which is one of the common complications of the condition.

Sammy said: ‘My mum is my inspiration. She finds her partial blindness extremely frustrating, particularly as I need to help her with everyday tasks such as reading and I have to explain some situations to her if she can’t see clearly.

‘Although I can’t restore her vision, I can help her and others living with diabetes by raising money for Diabetes UK.

‘It works to fund research into finding a cure for diabetes and its complications, while also supporting people.’
