IT CAN be a very sensitive subject to talk about, but it is one that is very important.
A mental health service co-ordinator has been put forward for this year’s Best of Health Awards 2014.
Martin Dunning, who works for Solent NHS Trust, helps to run a daycare centre for people suffering mental health problems at The Orchards in Portsmouth.
Andrew Peryer said: ‘I’d like to vote for the day treatment centre at The Orchards, St James Hospital.
‘My unsung hero is Martin who runs the unit.’
The centre helps to empower those suffering with mental health problems.
Mr Dunning said: ‘How very kind of somebody to nominate me for this award.
‘I feel truly privileged to have really positive feedback regarding our service, and in particular my role to co-ordinate within the adult mental health acute care service.
‘I truly and humbly want to thank Mr Peryer who nominated me.
‘However, I’m part of a larger team of staff and volunteers of the trust who work hard on helping people with their recovery from mental distress, so I’d like to share this honour with them as well.’
There are 13 categories that people can nominate their health hero in.
The deadline to nominate a team or an individual has been extended to Friday, August 8, so there’s still time to praise your doctor, nurse, dentist, GP, community team, mental health team, midwife, ambulance worker, or pharmacist. The night will be held at the Portsmouth Guildhall on October 17, and tickets will be available shortly.
Nominations can be submitted by filling in the form to the right and sending it through the post, or via firstname.lastname@example.org
