STANDING tall and steeped in history, 12 stained glass windows from a former Portsmouth hospital are up for sponsorship.
The 8ft by 2ft panes were saved when the former Royal Portsmouth Hospital in Commercial Road, where Sainsbury’s now stands, closed in 1978.
As reported, the windows were kept in a private house for safekeeping, but have now been handed over to Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs Queen Alexandra Hospital.
The trust now wishes to display these windows in the A level corridor of QA.
Each pane depicts a different saint and 12 individuals or groups are being asked to sponsor a pane for £2,500.
This sponsorship will entitle them to have a brass plaque beneath their sponsored pane with their name and details displayed on it.
The remaining panes feature the saints Blaise, Veronica, Elizabeth, Giles, Edith, Francis and Vincent de Paul.
Money raised goes to The Rocky Appeal to fund the £2.4m surgical Da Vinci robot.
