TWO charities have joined together to offer a friendship and advice service for parents of disabled children.

KIDS, a Fareham-based charity that works with disabled children, young people and their families, has teamed up with Scope to expand the Face 2 Face befriending service.

Face 2 Face offers emotional support for parents when they are told of their child’s diagnosis and it has over 40 schemes across the UK.

Every Face 2 Face volunteer is a parent too – someone whose own child is disabled.

Volunteer Stuart Buckingham said: ‘As a dad, I felt isolated and left out.

‘It would have been reassuring to have had the opportunity to speak to other dads, that’s why I am volunteering.’

Face 2 Face will be officially launched later this month however KIDS is already receiving enquires from parents wishing to access the service.

Anyone interested in the service, or volunteering, should contact Kim Steele by email on kim.steele@kids.org.uk or by calling (01329) 242954.
